Non Surgical Cosmetic Techniques

There are a number of non-surgical cosmetic procedures that you might consider undergoing in order to improve the appearance of aspects of your face. These include botox injections or fillers.

BOTOX

Botox (or botulinum toxin) injections are used to smoothen out the appearance of wrinkles in the face by relaxing the muscles either side of the wrinkle. This works by the botox temporarily paralyzing the muscle, causing it to relax and therefore stop pulling on the skin around the wrinkle. The effect is that the wrinkle looks less obvious. The effect of the botox injection wears off gradually. This means that the original appearance of the wrinkle will gradually return, with the majority of the effect of the botox having worn off by about 3-4 months. The botox injection can be repeated.

FILLERS

These are used to fill in or plump areas of the face that have lost volume. The filler is made of a substance called hyaluronic acid (HA) which is a naturally occurring material found in the tissues beneath the skin. As you get older, the amount of HA gradually decreases and the aim of the filler is to restore some of the natural volume. As with botox, the effect of the filler gradually reduces although usually at a slower rate than for botox. It typically takes about 6-9 months for the effect of most fillers to have disappeared, although this tends to increase with a second or third filler injection.
